The June 2026 edition of the generative AI chatbot market-share report from Momentic, sourced from Similarweb data, depicts a market fragmenting faster than any previous technology-adoption cycle. ChatGPT remains the leader at 54.7% of worldwide web visits across the seven largest AI chatbots — down sharply from 76.5% in February 2025. Google Gemini sits second at 27.4%, up roughly 104% in six months, making it the fastest-scaling large assistant by web traffic.
Claude's numbers stand out most. The assistant holds 8.2% of worldwide web-visit share but grew 306% in a single quarter, climbing from 203 million web visits in January 2026 to 824 million in April. In the United States, Claude's web-visit share reaches 12.5%, ahead of its global average. DeepSeek holds 4.1% and Grok 2.8% of global web visits — both larger than many rankings report.
A critical caveat tempers the figures: web visits capture only consumer web products. They exclude mobile apps, embedded surfaces such as Microsoft Copilot inside Windows and Microsoft 365, and API consumption, where much of OpenAI's and Anthropic's token volume runs through enterprise contracts that generate no web visit. The API market — where latency, pricing, and capability drive enterprise adoption — tells a different story than consumer web traffic.
The momentum signal is nonetheless meaningful. Claude's quarterly growth suggests Anthropic is converting enterprise and developer mindshare into consumer brand awareness at speed, and Apple's WWDC decision to make Claude a selectable option across its device base adds a multi-billion-device distribution channel as iOS 27 rolls out in September.
