Anthropic has signed a new agreement with Amazon for up to 5 gigawatts of training and inference capacity, and separately expanded its work with Google and Broadcom on next-generation compute infrastructure for future Claude models, according to a summary of the company's activity across the first five months of 2026.
The scale is striking. Five gigawatts is roughly comparable to the power consumption of a major metropolitan area, and the commitment underscores why compute cost will be a primary line item when Anthropic files its S-1. The company said in April that its run-rate revenue had surpassed $30 billion, up from about $9 billion at the end of 2025, and that more than 1,000 business customers were each spending over $1 million annually.
The Amazon expansion fits a broader pattern of Anthropic securing compute through large, sometimes financially engineered, structures. Earlier in the year, a reported $36 billion private credit deal involving Apollo and Blackstone was set up to buy Google TPUs on Anthropic's behalf — an arrangement that may not appear as straightforward capital expenditure on the company's own balance sheet. Together with the Amazon and Broadcom commitments, these deals signal an infrastructure strategy that blends direct cloud agreements with off-balance-sheet financing.
For investors, the through-line is durability. Anthropic's growth narrative depends on serving rapidly expanding enterprise demand — including the Claude Code surge driving its adoption lead — without compute constraints throttling availability or pricing changes alienating cost-sensitive customers. Locking in multi-gigawatt capacity across Amazon, Google, and Broadcom is the supply-side answer to that demand, but it also raises the fixed-cost base that the company's eventual public-market valuation will have to support. How Anthropic accounts for and finances this compute will be among the most scrutinized sections of its prospectus.
