Anthropic announced on March 13, 2026 that the 1 million token context window is now generally available for Claude Opus 4.6 and Claude Sonnet 4.6 — at standard pricing with no per-token multiplier.
Pricing remains flat across the full window: $5/$25 per million tokens for Opus 4.6 and $3/$15 for Sonnet 4.6. A 900K-token request is billed at the same per-token rate as a 9K one — eliminating the premium pricing that previously applied to extended context usage.
The expansion also enables 6x more media per request, with support for up to 600 images or PDF pages per call, up from the previous limit of 100.
On retrieval benchmarks, Opus 4.6 scores 78.3% on MRCR v2, the highest among frontier models at that context length — demonstrating that the expanded window maintains retrieval accuracy rather than degrading with scale.
The feature is available on Claude Platform, Microsoft Foundry, and Google Cloud's Vertex AI. Claude Code users on Max, Team, and Enterprise plans get 1M context with Opus 4.6 included.
The practical impact is significant: developers can now feed entire codebases, legal document sets, or research paper collections into a single conversation, enabling analysis workflows that previously required chunking and multiple API calls.
