Anthropic has launched Claude Cowork, a new product that transforms Claude from a conversational AI into a persistent AI colleague capable of integrating deeply with workplace tools and operating autonomously across business workflows.

Unlike traditional chatbot interfaces, Claude Cowork maintains persistent context about your projects, team, and organizational knowledge. It connects directly to the tools your team already uses and can take actions on your behalf — not just answer questions.

Core capabilities include:

Persistent memory: Remembers your projects, preferences, team structure, and ongoing work across sessions

Tool integration: Native connections to Slack, Jira, GitHub, Linear, Notion, Google Workspace, Salesforce, and HubSpot

Autonomous workflows: Can monitor channels, update tickets, review PRs, draft responses, and manage routine tasks without prompting

Industry plugins: Specialized modules for sales (CRM analysis, pipeline management), finance (report generation, data reconciliation), legal (contract review, compliance checking), and marketing (campaign analysis, content planning)

The product comes in two tiers:

Cowork Team: $30/user/month — includes tool integrations, persistent memory, and basic autonomous workflows

Cowork Enterprise: Custom pricing — adds industry plugins, advanced security controls, custom training on company data, and dedicated support

Early adoption has been strong. Anthropic reports that over 400 companies signed up for the beta program, with conversion to paid plans exceeding 70%. Notable early customers include Stripe (engineering workflows), Figma (design feedback loops), and several large consulting firms.

The competitive landscape for AI workplace tools is heating up. Microsoft's Copilot has deep Office 365 integration, Google's Gemini is embedded in Workspace, and OpenAI recently launched its Frontier enterprise platform. Claude Cowork differentiates through its industry-specific plugins and what Anthropic calls 'deep work mode' — the ability to work on complex, multi-step tasks in the background and report back when complete.

Privacy and security features include SOC 2 Type II compliance, optional data residency controls, no training on customer data, and granular permission controls for what Claude can access and modify.

Anthropic's head of product noted that Cowork represents the company's vision for how AI should integrate into professional work: 'Not as a tool you visit, but as a colleague you work alongside — one that understands your context, respects your preferences, and gets better at helping you over time.'
