Microsoft Build 2026 opens June 2-3 in San Francisco, with CEO Satya Nadella's keynote expected to frame Windows as a platform for autonomous AI agents rather than a container for applications.
Based on pre-event communications, anticipated announcements include a Windows Agent Framework with APIs for agents embedded in the OS shell, task scheduler, and security model; a Copilot Agent Mode for multi-step coding workflows in VS Code; and a Windows Agent Store for curated agents.
Microsoft is also expected to formally add Anthropic's Claude alongside OpenAI in Azure AI Foundry with enterprise pricing and SLAs, and to ship an AI Foundry for Windows SDK bundling ONNX Runtime, DirectML, and Copilot Runtime.
The event follows a week of scrutiny over enterprise AI costs, giving Microsoft an opening to position its tooling and governance layer as the disciplined choice for deploying agents at scale. Specific announcements remain subject to change until the keynote.
