Zed now lets developers use their ChatGPT subscription directly inside its AI agent, matching Codex rate limits rather than requiring a separate API key and metered billing.
Alongside subscription auth, Zed continues to support the Agent Client Protocol (ACP), the Codex CLI, and standard API key access — giving developers multiple paths to wire models into the editor's agentic workflows. Letting users bring an existing ChatGPT plan removes the biggest friction point for casual adoption: a second bill. It also signals that editor makers increasingly compete on which subscriptions they can absorb, not just which models they expose.
