Claude Code's auto mode is now available on the Pro plan and supports Sonnet 4.6 alongside Opus 4.7. Developers can trigger autonomous runs with Shift+Tab after updating.
Auto mode lets Claude make decisions on the user's behalf during long tasks — running tools, iterating, and continuing without requiring permission prompts at each step. The update broadens access beyond Max-tier subscribers and gives users a second model option for autonomous workflows. Sonnet 4.6 offers a faster, cheaper alternative to Opus 4.7 for routine agentic work.
The expansion follows Opus 4.7's April 16, 2026 launch, which introduced extra-high effort level, the /ultrareview command in Claude Code, and task budgets in public beta. Bringing auto mode to the Pro tier signals Anthropic is pushing autonomous coding agents into the mainstream developer workflow, not just enterprise tiers.
